ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (24-8-1-1), defending Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, broke the Alaska Aces (27-8-0-1) nine-game winning streak and perfect overtime record after dealing them a 2-1 shootout loss. The Reign earned the win before their second sellout crowd of 9,616 on Saturday, Jan. 6 at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

The game's pace began quick but even with constant end-to-end play, neither team managed a shot on net for the last half of the first period. The frame remained scoreless until the 18:56 mark when Alaska's Chris Clackson gathered up a rebound off Corey Syvrett's shot and fired it past JF Berube to take a 1-0 lead.

The second period was another frame of low shots, six for the Reign and four for the Aces. Among those six shots, Colton Yellow Horn netted a power-play goal for his 24th tally of the season. After winning the draw, the Reign's forward line took control of the puck. Kyle Kraemer moved it up to C.J. Stretch who found Yellow Horn at the hashes of the right circle. The winger wristed it past Mark Gruggenberger to tie the game.

A scoreless third period forced an extra frame which would give the Reign a two-man advantage for 42 seconds. Even with such a large advantage, the Reign couldn't convert the opportunity. The overtime period didn't result in a winner either. A shootout would be the decider of the game for the fifth time this season.

The Reign saw their longest shootout of 2012-13 with nine rounds. Mario Lamoureux was the first to light the lamp and was matched by the Aces' Joey Crabb. The same pattern would follow for Yellow Horn, Kyle Clifford, and Vincent LoVerde. Brodie Sheahan won the game for the Reign with a backhanded goal beating Gruggenberger and the Aces for the first time this season.

Berube earned his first shootout win of the season stopping 17 of 18 regulation shots and five of nine shootout shots, and Gruggenberger was dealt the loss stopping 20 of 21 regulation shots and four of nine shootout shots.

Three Stars: 1. ONT - Brodie Sheahan 2. ONT - Colton Yellow Horn 3. ONT - JF Berube
