Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM - Bulls starting pitcher Dietrich Enns struck out a career-high twelve batters over five scoreless innings and left fielder Brett Sullivan smashed a three-run home run in Durham's 6-1 victory over the Gwinnett Stripers on Thursday evening at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
The 12 punchouts for Enns (5.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 12 K) were the most by a Bulls pitcher this season, in addition to a new single-game career-high for the southpaw. He retired nine of the first 11 batters faced to earn his third victory of 2021. Durham relievers David Hess (2.0 IP, H, 2 K), Phoenix Sanders (1.0 IP) and Brent Honeywell Jr. (1.0 IP, H, R, ER, BB, K) combined for the final four frames. Gwinnett starter Kyle Wright (6.0 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 6 BB, 5 K) suffered the defeat.
Sullivan shot the Bulls ahead with his three-run blast in the third, his second big fly in a span of three games. SS Tristan Gray one inning later lined an RBI double to right to make it a four-run advantage. DH Deivy Grullon added to the tally with a solo home run to deep center in the seventh, while RF Josh Lowe's RBI single to right capped Durham's scoring.
The victory improved the Bulls' record to 33-17, maintaining their first place division lead over the Nashville Sounds. Durham's 33 wins this season are tied for the most of any Triple-A squad thus far in 2021.
The two teams are slated to square off again on Friday night, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35pm ET. The Bulls' starting pitch has not yet been determined, while the Stripers are expected to send RHP Touki Toussaint (0-0, 0.00) to the hill as part of his Major League Rehab Assignment. Tickets for that game and all remaining Bulls home games are now available at durhambulls.com.
