Sioux Falls, SD Jan. 2, 2014 - The Iowa Energy defeated the Skyforce Thursday night at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.

The Energy jumped out to an early 21-10 lead before Sioux Falls went on a 18-4 run and took a 28-25 lead after the first quarter.

Iowa started the second quarter on a 23-4 run, sparked by Larry Owens, who had his best game in an Energy uniform scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds off the bench. The Energy outscored Sioux Falls 37-19 in the quarter and took a 62-47 lead into the half.

The third quarter was all Skyforce as Anthony Mason Jr. and Deandre Liggins pulled the team within 3 at the end of the third quarter, and trailed 83-80. Sioux Falls outscored the Energy 33-21 in the quarter.

Iowa held Sioux Falls to just 14 points in the final quarter and Kalin Lucas led the Energy to the 104-94 victory on the road over their division rival.

Sioux Falls (11-4) was led by Liggins, who had 20 points and 7 assists. Mason Jr. added 18 off the bench and 9 boards. Justin Hamilton had 10 points and 8 boards for the Skyforce.

The Energy (10-4) were led by Lucas, who had 22 points and 7 assists. Owens added 15 points and 14 boards. Jarvis Varnado had 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Named the NBA D-League's Player of the Month earlier in the day, Othyus Jeffers exited the game in the second quarter and required stitches after getting elbowed. He returned and finished 11 points and 9 boards.

The Energy will travel to Fort Wayne tomorrow to take on the Mad Ants, then travel to Reno for the NBA D-League Showcase next week.

Iowa will return home on Sunday, January 12th vs. the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. The game will feature a youth jersey giveaway presented by Dahls.
