Springfield Armor News Release
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - After falling behind by 21 following the first quarter, the Springfield Armor (3-11), presented by MGM Springfield, suffered its sixth home loss of the season, 102-75, at the hands of the Tulsa 66ers (3-13) Friday night at the MassMutual Center.
The 66ers raced out of the gates, opening up a 26-5 lead with just under three minutes left in the first. Tulsa hit 10 of its first 17 shots, including 6-of-8 from beyond the arc. On the other side, Springfield was just 2-of-13 from the field over the game's first nine minutes. Tulsa went on to hold a 38-17 advantage after one period behind 18 points from Grant Jerrett who went 5-of-5 from three-point range. As a team, the 66ers hit 75 percent (9-of-12) of their shots from long range, while Springfield was perfect from the free throw line (5-of-5).
The Armor defense tightened up early in the second quarter, holding the 66ers to just eight points over the first seven minutes, but could only cut the Tulsa lead down by one as the visitor continued to hold a 20-point lead at 46-26. Tulsa heated back up from the field, finishing off the half on a 15-7 run over the final 5:32 to take a 61-33 lead into the locker room.
Springfield shot 30.6 percent from the floor over the first half, but connected on 11-of-12 shots from the charity stripe. Tulsa's 10 three pointers and 20 points from Jerrett aided in the 28-point edge, while the 66ers capitalized on 27 rebounds for an 11-2 margin in second chance points.
With the lead reaching as high as 41 in the third, Tulsa ended the frame with a 90-50 advantage heading into the fourth. Springfield had cut the lead to 31 at the midway point of the final frame, but the 66ers eventually eclipsed the century mark, taking the game by a final score of 102-75.
Tulsa guard Mario Little finished with a game-high 23 points on 9-of-24 shooting which included four treys, while Jerrett finished with his 20 first half points, exiting the game in the second quarter without returning. Armor forward Marcus Hubbard missed a double-double by a basket, ending his night with eight points and 10 boards. Adonis Thomas, Larry Anderson and Quinn McDowell each finished with nine points for Springfield.
The Armor will now travel to Maine to face the Red Claws for a 7:00 p.m. Saturday night tilt at the Portland Expo tomorrow evening. For more information on the Armor, visit www.ArmorHoops.com or call (413) 746-3263. Keep up with the Armor on Facebook and Twitter.
