Balanced Attack Propels Jam to Fifth Straight Win

BAKERSFIELD, January 2, 2014 - Six players scored in double figures as the Bakersfield Jam (8-8) defeated the Canton Charge (9-5) 112-104 at home Thursday night.
Despite shooting just 39 percent to start of the game, Bakersfield trailed Canton by only five points (28-23) at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter turned out to be the primary difference in the game as the Jam outscored the Charge 32-19 in the period to go up 55-47 at the half and never looked back. Bakersfield maintained the lead the entire second half and went ahead by as many as 12 points, thanks in part to Jared Cunningham who scored 17 of his team-high 22 points in the final frame.
All five starters scored in double figures for Bakersfield. Brian Butch recorded a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds, Ike Diogu had 18 points and James Nunnally added 14 points. Damion James tallied 12 points and Billy Baptist off the bench contributed 10 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two blocks.
Canton was led by Gilbert Brown who had a game-high 30 points to go along with six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Antoine Agudio tallied 17 points, while Shane Edwards added 16 points. Jorge Gutierrez posted a double-double with 13 points and 13 assists.
The Jam will travel southbound for a match against the Los Angeles D-Fenders on Saturday, January 4 at 6:30 p.m. PST.
