Edmonton Eskimos unveil 2007 Rogers CFL Player Awards nominees

(Edmonton) Quarterback Ricky Ray leads the class of Edmonton Eskimo nominees for the 2007 Rogers CFL Player Awards.

Nominees were selected by 40 voting members of the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC) and eight CFL head coaches. Five FRC representatives from each CFL city plus the respective head coach submitted votes for the six categories. The East and West Rogers CFL Player Awards voting results will be announced on Wednesday, Oct. 31.

Outstanding Player - Ricky Ray

4th Outstanding Player nomination (2003, 2005, 2006)

311 completions in 445 attempts (69.9%) for 3652 yards and 22 TDs, including five TDs in a game twice (June 28 vs. Wpg and Sept 14 vs. Mtl); 41 carries for 232 yards.

Played in 13 games until suffering a separated shoulder against Toronto on Sept 28

Broke Eskimo career passing yards record on Sept 14

Named CFL Offensive Player of the Week in Week 1 - 33 of 42 (78.6%) for 394 yards and five touchdowns. Also ran 4 times for 34 yards.

Outstanding Canadian - Kamau Peterson *

First Outstanding Canadian nomination

Leads team in receiving with 64 catches for 864 yards and six TDs

Has started all 16 games this season.

Named CFL Canadian of the Week in Week 11 (vs. the Calgary Stampeders on the Labour Day Rematch. Peterson was the team's leading receiver with 117 yards on six catches.

Outstanding Defensive - Jason Goss

First Outstanding Defensive nomination

41 defensive tackles

Leads team in interceptions with five for 164 yards, two returned for touchdowns (Aug. 18 vs. Sask and Sept. 14 vs. Mtl)

Also tied for first on team in pass knockdowns with six

Has played in all 16 games this season (started 15)

Named CFL Defensive Player of the Week in Week 12 (vs. Montreal on Sept 14) Goss had three defensive tackles, two interceptions, including one for an 82 yard TD return and one knockdown.

Outstanding Offensive Lineman - Joe McGrath

Second straight Outstanding Offensive Lineman nomination

Has started all 16 games this season

Outstanding Rookie - Tyler Ebell *

Has 67 catches for 521 yards and two TDs

Team-leading rusher with 124 carries for 650 yards and one TD

Also leads team in All-Purpose Yards with 1317

Has played in 12 games (11 starts) this season

Outstanding Special Teams - Mathieu Bertrand

Led the CFL with 20 special teams tackles before suffering a season nding injury Sept. 28 vs. Toronto

Played in 13 games (11 starts) this season.
