Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release

WINNIPEG, MB - Six members of the East Division-leading Winnipeg Blue Bombers have been recognized for their contributions to the football club's success this season by being named the team's nominees for the 2007 Rogers CFL Player Awards.

Nominees for all eight Canadian Football League teams were announced earlier today. Nominees were selected by 40 voting members of the Football Reporters of Canada and eight CFL head coaches.

In this first ballot, five FRC representatives from each CFL city plus the respective head coach submitted votes for the six categories. Voters were asked to select players from their local CFL club who through on-field performance excellence, best represent the awards' title - Outstanding Player, Outstanding Canadian Player, Outstanding Defensive Player, Outstanding Offensive Lineman, Outstanding Rookie, and Outstanding Special Teams Player.

The East and West Rogers CFL Player Awards voting results will be announced on Wednesday, Oct. 31.

The Bomber nominees include:

Quarterback Kevin Glenn for Outstanding Player. Defensive end Tom Canada for Outstanding Defensive Player. Defensive tackle Doug Brown for Outstanding Canadian. Offensive tackle Dan Goodspeed for Outstanding Offensive Lineman. Linebacker Cam Hall for Outstanding Rookie. Safety Kyries Hebert for Outstanding Special Teams Player.

Kevin Glenn leads all CFL quarterbacks this season with 4,737 passing yards. He is also among the league's top pivots in completion percentage (64.5 per cent), average gain per pass (8.7 yards) and quarterback efficiency rating (98.1 per cent). Another impressive statistic is that two of the players he is throwing the ball to - wide receiver Terrence Edwards (1,241 yards) and slotback Milt Stegall (1,047 yards) - are ranked 1-2 in the league in receiving yardage while wide receiver Derick Armstrong is sixth in the league with 995 yards.

Tom Canada has been wreaking havoc against opposing defences all season long. The fourth-year Bomber defensive end is currently second in the CFL with 12 quarterback sacks. That includes a pair of three-sack performances (Sept. 2 @ Saskatchewan and Sept. 15 @ Hamilton). Canada was also named the Rogers CFL Defensive Player of the Month for September after compiling five sacks and seven defensive tackles. He also leads the Bombers in tackles for losses this season with four for five yards and has one pass knockdown.

Doug Brown has been causing opposing offensive lineman fits since the 2007 season started. He is currently third on the Bombers in quarterback sacks with six, which is just one off the CFL career high of seven he had in 2001. Brown also has 35 defensive tackles, one special teams tackle and one fumble recovery. Brown is a previous winner of the Outstanding Canadian Award (2001) and the East Division representative as Outstanding Canadian in 2006.

Dan Goodspeed has rebounded from a serious knee injury in 2006 to emerge as one of the top offensive lineman in the CFL this season. Goodspeed and the rest of the Bomber offensive line have paved the way for running back Charles Roberts to rush for 1,379 yards this season, the sixth straight season 'Blink' has cracked the century mark. The Bomber hogs have also given up the second fewest quarterback sacks in the league this season (24).

Cam Hall has quickly established himself as a defensive playmaker in his first CFL season. He is second on the Bombers in defensive tackles (70) and pass knockdowns (four). Hall is also among the team leaders in fumble recoveries (two), quarterback sacks (two) and tackles for losses (one).

Kyries Hebert has been a special teams terror for the Big Blue this season. He currently leads the team in special teams tackles with 18 and is tied for fourth overall in the CFL. That's in addition to his contributions on defence where he has registered 49 defensive tackles, two fumble recoveries, two interceptions, a pair of pass knockdowns and five quarterback sacks.
