Eastern League Announces Five Additions to All-Star Game Rosters

Portland, Maine- The Eastern League in conjunction with the Portland Sea Dogs has announced six additions to the 2005 Hannaford Eastern League All-Star Game rosters. Pitchers Brian Burres (Norwich) and Justin Pope (Trenton) were added to the Northern Division squad along with David Bacani (Binghamton). Added to the Southern Division squad are pitcher Chris Cooper (Akron) and Melvin Dorta (Harrisburg). One additional move will be forthcoming. The additions are the result of promotions and injuries. The Sea Dogs will host the game at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine on Wednesday, July 13th at 7:00 PM.

Brian Burres replaces his Navigator's teammate Chris Begg who is currently on the disabled list. Burres is a member of the San Francisco Giants 40-man roster. In 14 games in 2005 he has posted a 5-3 record with a 3.06 ERA.

Justin Pope fills the void left from Jon Papelbon's (Portland) promotion to Triple-A Pawtucket. Pope in 34 games for the Thunder has a 2-2 record with 17 saves and a 2.93 ERA.

David Bacani is added to the roster as a result of a promotion to Triple-A Norfolk for his Binghamton teammate Chase Lambin. In 54 games Bacani is hitting at a .293 clip with 12 doubles, 3 homeruns, and 28 RBI.

An additional player will be added to the Northern Division squad. Trenton's Kevin Thompson was promoted to Triple-A Columbus. An announcement regarding a replacement has not yet been made.

J.D. Martin is unable to participate due to injury; he'll be replaced by his Akron teammate Chris Cooper. Cooper has a 3-1 record with 7 saves in 34 games along with a 2.13 ERA.

Melvin Dorta gets the nod as a result of Erie's Don Kelly being promoted to Triple-A Toledo. Dorta is hitting .260 in 74 games with 9 doubles, 9 homeruns, 36 RBI, and 12 stolen bases.

The 2005 Hannaford Eastern League All-Star Game will feature the stars of the Northern Division taking on the Southern Division All-Stars. Each roster consists of 24 players. Every Eastern League team is represented by at least three players including at least one position player and one pitcher.

The 2005 Hannaford Eastern League All-Star Game will be televised throughout New England on the New England Sports Network (NESN). Minor League Baseball.com will also provide live video and audio streaming of the event.
