Reading, PA -- The Akron Aeros used the long ball to defeat Reading 8-0 Tuesday night in the Eastern League, their first victory over the Phillies in nine games this season.
Ryan Mulhern slammed a bases-loaded home run in the third inning, Franklin Gutierrez a solo shot in the eighth.
Mulhern's homer was his third of the season in 13 games with Akron, all three coming at FirstEnergy Stadium. Gutierrez's homer was his eighth of the season and his fourth in his last three games at FES.
Right-hander Dan Denham (6-6) threw six shutout innings, allowing six hits with 10 strikeouts. His previous outing he was roughed up for six runs and 12 hits in six innings in Reading.
Francisco Butto (0-4), making a spot start for the Phillies, allowed four unearned runs and two hits in four innings in his first Double-A start
