Connecticut Defenders News Release
(Norwich, Conn.) -- The Norwich Navigators will host Connecticut National Guard Day on Saturday, July 9, during which all active and retired Connecticut Guard personnel and their families have been invited to Dodd Stadium to enjoy a military celebration.
Specific festivities include official recognition of Guard members for their service to the state and country and displays of several military units that served in Iraq prior to the game. Connecticut is home to 23 Army National Guard Units, including the 248th Engineer Company and Battery A, 2nd Battalion 192 Field Artillery Company in Norwich. Every unit in the state, however, has been invited to attend on just a two-dollar admission to the 2:05 p.m. game.
Last season the Navigators hosted a similar event that was attended by numerous local, state, and national dignitaries, including United States Senators Chris Dodd and Joseph Lieberman and Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell.
"Last year was such an emotional event since we were welcoming back troops, many of which had just recently been in Iraq and Afghanistan", said Keith Hallal, Navigators General Manager. "This year we want to make sure they all know that we continue to think about them every day and appreciate the job that they do."
The Navigators will be playing the Binghamton Mets on July 9. Game time is 2:05 p.m. with gates opening at 1:00 p.m.

On Thursday, July 7, Connecticut state employees will unite at Dodd Stadium for the Navigators' official State of Connecticut Employee and United Parcel Service Family Night. A portion of the evening's proceeds will benefit the National Sports Festival, which raises money to help fight Cerebral Palsy.
The evening will feature a unique twist on an old promotion as Dana Bowman, an elite skydiver for Hanger Prosthetics, will deliver the game ball to Dodd Stadium by skydiving into the ballpark and landing on a UPS envelope. The Navigators are hosting the New Britain Rock Cats in a 7:05 p.m. game with gates opening at 6:00 p.m.
