Early Lead Goes By Board In Ontario; Grizzlies Fall 3-1

Ontario, California - The Ontario Reign defeated the Utah Grizzlies (26-23-2-5) 3-1 Saturday night at the Citizens Business Bank Arena. The Reign added a late empty-netter to seal the contest and break the 2-1 score.

Utah had three power-plays in the third period but was unable to beat Reign goaltender Curtis Darling who stopped 28 of 29 Grizzlies shots.

Ontario broke a 1-1 tie 11:57 into the second period as Mike Egener threw in a shot from the point through traffic that found the back of the net and proved to be the game-winner.

Utah took a 1-0 lead 1:53 into the contest as AJ Perry and James Sixsmith setup Vlady Nikiforov (14) for a power-play goal. The assist by Sixsmith set a Utah season-high as he scored in his ninth-straight game. However, Ontario came back to tie the game just 3:41 later at 5:34.

Utah goaltender Beau Erickson stopped 29 of 31 Ontario shots in the losing effort.

Utah will now stay on the road and travel to Alaska for games Wednesday and Thursday. Face-off both evenings is scheduled for 9:15 p.m.

Utah returns home Friday, March 12 to host Stockton at 7:05 p.m.
