Royals Sign Forward Matt Ward

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed forward Matt Ward to an Amateur Tryout Agreement. Ward (5'9/175) (24), who hails from Kemptville, Ontario, just completed his collegiate career at Neumann University, where this season he lead the team in scoring with twenty-seven points in twenty-three games (10g-17a27pts). In 2008-09, Ward, a three-time Eastern College Athletic Conference West all conference selection, led the Knights to an NCAA Division III National Championship. In twenty-seven games that year, Ward led the team in goals (21), assists (21) and points (42), and was selected as the Knights' most valuable player.

The Royals return to action this afternoon (Sunday, February 28, 2009 @ 5:05 pm) when the Johnstown Chiefs visit the Sovereign Center in Reading. The Royals' game will be preceded by the Fifth Annual Battle of the Badges game between the Reading Police and Fire Departments, which kicks off at 2:15 pm. The Olympic gold medal showdown between Team USA and Team Canada will be shown on the televisions in the Sovereign Center concourse.
