
Brouillette Loaned To Hartford; Wiikman Returned

CHARLOTTE, NC-Charlotte Checkers general manager and head coach Derek Wilkinson announced today that defenseman Julien Brouillette has been loaned to the American Hockey League's Hartford Wolf Pack while goaltender Miika Wiikman was assigned back to the Queen City by the New York Rangers.
Brouillette, 23, leads all Checkers defensemen with 33 points (13g, 20a) and his 13 goals put him in a tie for second among all ECHL blueliners. He has played five AHL games with Providence and Hartford this season, registering one assist and two penalty minutes.
The native of St. Esprit, Quebec is in his second season with the Checkers. In 2008-09, he led all Charlotte defensemen in scoring with 29 points (11g, 18a).
Wiikman, 25, led the Checkers in wins with nine at the time of his call-up in January and has only one regulation loss in his last 13 starts. The 5-foot-11 netminder has a 9-2-3 record with a 2.77 goals against average and.909 save percentage with Charlotte this season. His last start in a Checkers uniform was on Jan. 29 when led Charlotte to a 5-2 win over Johnstown.
The native of Mariestad, Sweden spent most of last season with Hartford, leading the team in games played (43), saves (1,043) and shutouts (2). Wiikman also suited up in four games with the Checkers in 2008-09, posting a 1-1-2 record with a 2.36 GAA and.922 save percentage.
Prior to coming to North America, Wiikman helped HPK Hameenlinna capture the 2006 Finnish Elite League Championship. That season he won the Jari Kurri trophy, given to the league's most valuable player in the playoffs.
The Checkers (30-18-6) take on Kalamazoo again today at Wings Stadium at 4:00 p.m. The team will return home on Wednesday, Mar. 3 to host Cincinnati. The puck drops at 7 p.m. and ticket information can be obtained by calling 704-342-4-ICE or visiting www.gocheckers.com
