Bakersfield scores 4-2 win over Victoria for two-game sweep

Bakersfield, CA - In a Saturday night contest, the Victoria Salmon Kings and Bakersfield Condors met in the finale of a two-game set at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield, CA. Victoria gave Leland Fisher the nod in net, while Bakersfield countered with Jean-Phillipe Levasseur.

Bakersfield struck first when Jason Dale let a wrist shot go from the left wing. Dale's shot found a seam and slid into the back of the net. Victoria tied it up before the period would end when Jimmy Sharrow found Randall Gelech in the slot on the power play. Gelech fired the one-timer past Levasseur. The teams went to the dressing tied at 1-1.

Bakersfield extended their lead in the second period. Stephane Goulet took advantage of a turnover in the Victoria zone and lifted a backhand shot past Irving. The Condors would notch their second marker of the frame when Adam Naglich fed Mathieu Aubin for a backdoor tap in. The Condors led 3-1 through 40 minutes.

Victoria would cut the lead to one when Wes Goldie let a shot go from the right wing corner. The wrister would bank in off a Bakersfield defenseman for Goldie's ECHL leading 38th of the year. The Condors would add a late goal by Ryan Menei to close out the scoring. Condors 4 Salmon Kings 2.

Victoria went 1/5=20.0% on the power play while Bakersfield was 0/4=0.0%. The Salmon Kings outshot the Condors 38-27.

The Salmon Kings now travel to Stockton to begin a three-game set on Wednesday night. The last two games of the set occur next Friday and Saturday evenings. Victoria returns home to host the National Conference leading Idaho Steelheads for a three-game set with matches on Wednesday, March 10th, Friday, March 12th, and Saturday, March 13th.
