Eagles Ring in a 4-3 Overtime Win
November 22, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, Colo. -The cowbells were ringing as the Colorado Eagles (8-3-2) took the 4-3 win in overtime against Las Vegas Wranglers (5-9-1) at the Budweiser Events Center on Friday night. The Eagles doubled the Wranglers shots-on-goal with a total tally of 41-20 in Colorado's favor, which helped secure the Eagles victory.
Eagles Forward Kyle Ostrow grabbed the rebound along the endwall and threw the puck off the back of Wranglers goaltender Travis Fullerton to put Colorado in the lead 1-0, 10:22 into the first. Seven minutes later veteran forward Trent Daavettila found the back of the net from between the hashes to put the Eagles up 2-0. Las Vegas retaliated less than thirty seconds later to trim Colorado's lead 2-1 on a goal from Wranglers forward Geoff Irwin. The Eagles penalty kill was tested three times in the first 20 minutes, but Colorado was up to the task and killed off all three.
A little over nine minutes into the second frame the Wranglers tied the game 2-2 as forward Geoff Paukovich tipped the puck over Eagles netminder Marc Cheverie.
The Wranglers took a 3-2 lead 10:41 into the third frame as forward Chris Francis scored on a power-play. Not long after that Eagles forward Luke Fulghum tied the game back up at 3-3, beating Fullerton top-shelf and ending regulation time.
Since there are no ties in the ECHL, the two teams went into a 4-on-4 sudden death overtime. Eagles forward Ray Sawada scored the game winning goal pounding home a pass from Riley Nelson in the low-slot to edge out the Wranglers 4-3.
The same two teams will meet-up again on Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center starting at 7:05pm.
