Orlando Solar Bears News Release
Orlando, FL - The Orlando Solar Bears, proud affiliate of the NHL's Minnesota Wild and Toronto Maple Leafs and AHL's Iowa Wild and Toronto Marlies, announced today that for the second straight year Solar Bears players will team up with the Community Food & Outreach Center and Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer to help families in need around the Thanksgiving holiday. On Monday, November 25th, hundreds of families struggling with hunger, homelessness, and poverty will receive food and help for Thanksgiving at the Community Food & Outreach Center.
On Monday, November 25th, the management and players of the Orlando Solar Bears, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, and other Central Florida volunteers will help lead the Community Food & Outreach Center's "Give
Thanks, Give Food" Thanksgiving outreach event at their Downtown Orlando Campus on November 25th from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. This event is designed to get much needed help for many families struggling to break free from poverty and help them avoid going hungry this Thanksgiving season. "Give Thanks, Give Food" will kick off with an emergency food box distribution event for hungry families and a variety of crisis services at the campus to help these families get back on their feet.
"I am thankful for the Solar Bears contributions both on and off the ice for our community," said Orlando Mayor Dyer. "Through events like this, they continue to provide aid for our local non-profits and make a positive difference in the lives of our children and families here in Orlando."
"We are honored to assist our wonderful partners, the Community Food & Outreach Center, and are thankful to Scott George and his team for the tremendous work they do here in our community," said CFOC Board Member and Solar Bears CEO/Managing Partner Jason Siegel.
"People are hurting and hungry in record numbers in our community right now, and it is our privilege to work with the Orlando Solar Bears and other caring advocates who are stepping up this holiday season," says Scott George, Cofounder of the Community Food & Outreach Center. The charity provides hunger relief programs, crisis relief, and other holistic help for families in need in Central Florida. "We are seeing more children and families in need than ever before, and it means so much to these hurting families to have companies and community leaders give back in such a meaningful way," said George.
The goal on event day is to present Thanksgiving food and other services more than 300 families, as well as help many of these families find tools and resources to move them back to a place of self-sufficiency. Much of the food that will be distributed on Monday, November 25, was donated by hockey fans who attended last night's Solar Bears game. Approximately 750 food items were collected at the game night food drive. "Orlando families in need can always count on Solar Bears fans," said Siegel.
"We have hundreds of families that need help this holiday season, and for many of them hope begins with a meal this Thanksgiving," said Community Food & Outreach Center Executive Director Eric Gray.
