Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, WV- The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, have announced a transaction, which takes effect immediately. Wheeling has received goaltender Mathieu Corbeil from the AHL's Utica Comets.

Corbeil, 22, is currently playing in his second professional season, after spending the 2012-13 campaign with the CHL's Missouri Mavericks, where he posted a 10-9-1 record, a 2.69 GAA, and a .915 Sv%. Prior to turning pro, Mathieu spent four seasons in the QMJHL, beginning with the Halifax Mooseheads, and finishing with the Saint John Sea Dogs. Despite struggling on a rebuilding Halifax squad, the Montreal, QC native was able to earn the attention of the Columbus Blue Jackets, who selected him in the fourth round (102nd overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Furthermore, division rival Saint John took notice of Corbeil, as the Sea Dogs traded for his services during the first of their two President Cup runs in 2010-11. In parts of two seasons with Saint John, Mathieu compiled a 50-11-2 regular season record, while also snagging 20 playoff wins, including a 16-1 mark during the 2012 postseason.

This is Corbeil's second year under contract with the Vancouver Canucks' AHL affiliate, as he was signed by the Chicago Wolves last season, before following the team to Utica this season. Thus far in 2013-14, Mathieu has appeared in six games with the CHL's St. Charles Chill.

Corbeil will join the Nailers in time for the weekend, when the team will travel to Fort Wayne on Saturday and Cincinnati on Sunday. Wheeling's next home game takes place on November 30th against the Toledo Walleye.
