ECHL Utah Grizzlies

Dumont, Battaglia join the Grizzlies

October 11, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies entered training camp with two forwards they did not expect to have two months ago. For that matter, Louis Dumont and Anthony Battaglia didn't think they would be in Utah either. Hurricane Katrina forced the Mississippi Sea Wolves to suspend operations for the 2005-2006 season, and that left two potent offensive threats looking for a place to lace up their skates.

"This has been a very stable organization and my cousin (Martin Sonnenberg, 2004-2005) loved the entire experience of playing here," said Dumont, the ECHL's all-time leading scorer. "Utah is a very beautiful place."

Battaglia had originally re-signed with Mississippi on June 25th, becoming the first Sea Wolves player to commit to the team for the 2005-2006 season. Dumont was going to send in his contract, for the upcoming season, the day Katrina hit Biloxi and the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Combined, the two put up 125 points last season, qualifying the Sea Wolves for the Kelly Cup Playoffs.

Training camp continues today for the Grizzlies at the Acord Ice Center, and the public is invited to attend. The entire training camp schedule is attached to this release.

The Grizzlies open play in the ECHL Friday, October 21st with Phoenix at the E-Center. Group party packages are on sale now by calling (801) 988-PUCK.
