Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - It was standing room only as fans packed the Bakersfield Ice Sports Center for the Bakersfield Condors 2005-2006 annual Open House & Family Day, Sunday October 9th. Presented by KGET-TV 17, the event gave the community the first look at the new line-up.
For the fourth year in a row, admission was free with the donation of two canned goods. A record 7,000 lbs. of food was collected on behalf of The Salvation Army Food Pantry, more than doubling the total collections of the last three seasons combined. This food will allow The Salvation Army to replenish their resources that have been strained due to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
"We are thrilled with the generosity of the Bakersfield community," said Captain David Ebel of The Salvation Army. "We are grateful to the Condors for inviting us to participate in this event and for the amazing amount of food that we received."
The afternoon featured a public skate with Condors players. Fans lined up around the building to get their turn on the ice with the Condors. Following the free skate, the team held a short scrimmage complete with a shoot-out. Assistant Coach Mark Pederson was on the bench for the black team, who won the "practice game" 3-2. The winning goal was scored by 21-year-old Patrik Levesque on a penalty shot. The yellow team, coached by Director of Player Personnel Bob Bartlett, won the shoot out 1- 0. The only player to score during the shoot out was Kevin St. Jacques.
Season ticket holders were able to pick up their tickets and fans got their first look at new Condors merchandise. The event also included kid-friendly activities like balloon animals by Watermelon the clown, visits from Colonel Claw'd and Baby Cal and the Condors inflatable Slapshot game.
Individual tickets are now on sale for the Condors October 15th pre-season match against the Fresno Falcons. Tickets are available the Rabobank Arena Box Office, open from 10:00am to 6:00pm, and by calling Ticketmaster at 322-2525 or ordering online at bakersfieldcondors.com.
The Bakersfield Condors open their 2005-06 ECHL season in 11 days at home on October 22nd against the Victoria Salmon Kings.
