Elite defenseman joins Ice Dogs

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs announced today that defenseman Derick Martin has been reassigned by the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 5'11", 185 pound native of Timmins, Ontario played his first season of professional hockey last year with the Lubbock Cotton Kings of the CHL. In 57 games, he scored 9 goals, 25 assists and had 71 penalty minutes. His stellar play earned him runner-up honors for defenseman of the year in the Central Hockey League as a rookie.

"Derick is a smooth skating, hard hitting defenseman who had a tremendous rookie year last season", said Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Malcolm Cameron. "I'm very familiar with Derick as he played with one of my good friends in junior hockey. We're excited to have him here."

Prior to turning pro, Martin played two seasons for St. Mary's University of the CIS and three seasons with the Hull Olympiques of the QMJHL. His best year came in 2000-2001 when he had 24 points in 64 games and 102 penalty minutes with Hull.
