Bridgeport Islanders News Release

HERSHEY, PA - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, lost 4-1 on the road to the Hershey Bears Saturday despite a pair of second-period, penalty-shot stops by goaltender Wade Dubielewicz.

The Sound Tigers had four first-period power plays and controlled the play through most of the initial 20 minutes, coming away with a 12-8 shots on goal advantage, but Hershey took the first lead at 1-0 on the fourth goal of the season by Lawrence Nycholat off assists from Brooks Laich and Tomas Fleischmann two ticks past the mid-point of the opening frame.

The Sound Tigers had another three power plays in the second period and carried a fourth into the intermission, compared to just three for the Bears to that point in the entire game, but Hershey doubled its lead to 2-0 on another goal set up by Laich and Fleischmann as Graham Mink notched his team-leading 16th of the season 3:55 into the middle frame.

The Bears also had the two chances to increase their lead in the second period but were denied on a pair of penalty shots by Dubielewicz, who first forced leading scorer Eric Fehr to shoot high at the 4:46 mark then threw out his left pad to stop a backhanded attempt by Laich with 6:44 remaining in the frame. The Sound Tigers have still never been scored upon on a penalty shot.

The Sound Tigers carryover power play turned into a two-man advantage in the opening moments of the third period, and Steve Regier cut the lead to 2-1 with his fourth goal of the season off assists from Jeff Hamilton and Travis Brigley at the 58-second mark. Hamilton extended a scoring streak to six games with the helper. The Sound Tigers also killed Hershey power plays early and late in the third period, but the Bears scored twice late in the game to ice the win.

Hershey captain Boyd Kane made it 3-1 at 17:41 with his seventh marker of the year off an assist from David Steckel, and, with Dubielewicz on the bench in favor of an extra attacker, Owen Fussey poked a loose puck at the Bears blue line to center ice and outraced the defense to tuck his first goal of the season into the empty net with 1:21 left to play.

Laich was the first star of the game, Nycholat the second and Fleischmann the third. Dubielewicz finished with 21 saves while Hershey's Frederic Cassivi earned his 12th win of the season with 24 stops as the shots on goal were tied at 25. The Sound Tigers were 1 for 9 on the power play and 5 for 5 on the penalty kill.

The Sound Tigers will finish a stretch of three straight road games when they play the Bears again in Hershey this Sunday at 5 p.m. All Sound Tigers games are web-cast live at www.soundtigers.com. Fans can also watch all games live on the B2 Networks.
