Abbotsford Heat News Release
Omaha, NE - The San Antonio Rampage jumped out to an early lead and held off the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights 3-1 on Saturday night at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. It was the Rampage's first win in three tries against the Knights. The loss also stretched the Knights' winless streak at home to four games.
Mike Bishai gave the Rampage a 1-0 lead when he tucked a pass from Steve Gainey past Brent Krahn for his fourth goal of the year.
San Antonio doubled that lead less than two minutes later when Layne Ulmer pounced on his own rebound and popped a shot past Krahn for his team-leading eighth goal of the year.
Randall Gelech gave the visitors a 3-0 lead when he scored off a one-timer from the slot at 13:01 of the second period.
The Knights broke goalie Karl Goehring's shutout bid on a late powerplay. Zenith Komarniski drove the puck in down the glass. With Goehring behind the net to play the puck, it took an odd hop and ricocheted to the slot. Justin Taylor got there first and fired the puck into the empty net. That would be all the scoring the Knights could muster. Goehring finished with 24 saves, the win and first star of the game honors.
The Knights are now 12-10-0-5. They host the Rampage again on Sunday afternoon at 5:00 p.m.
Tickets for all home games are on sale at the Civic Auditorium box office, Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., on Sunday from noon through game time and at all Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets may be purchased by calling 422-1212 or at Ticketmaster.com.
