Former Central Michigan University Chippewa Derrick Walker belted the game-deciding two-run homer as the South Bend Silver Hawks defeated the Great Lakes Loons Saturday night by a score of 3-2.

The game was played in front of a new Dow Diamond 2008 regular-season record crowd of 5,616 fans.

South Bend took an early lead in the first inning after Evan Frey led off the ballgame with a triple, then came around to score on Taylor Harbin's RBI bloop-single to right.

Walker, a Detroit native, then connected in the fifth inning on his two-run home run to make it a 3-0 South Bend lead.

Andrew Lambo responded on behalf of the Loons, blasting his ninth home run of the season, a two-run shot off Silver Hawks ace Jarrod Parker to make it a 3-2 South Bend lead.

The score remained the same as the last seven Loons were retired in order to end the ballgame.

Parker (6-3) picked up his sixth win of the year for the Silver Hawks after pitching five innings and allowing two runs on the Lambo homer. Billy Spottiswood pitched a perfect ninth to pick up the save, his sixth save of the season.

Thomas Melgarejo pitched 3 2/3 innings on the hill for the Loons and picked up his fourth loss of the season. Daigoro Rondon pitched well in relief despite allowing Walker's home run, pitching 5 1/3 innings in relief after a 37 minute rain delay, allowing three hits and striking out 10.
