Lexington Legends News Release

CHARLESTON, WV - Power Park has been host to a bevy of competitive Legends matchups. Despite a late lone Legends home run, Lexington never got closer than two runs in its 3-1 loss Thurday night. With storms on the horizon, West Virginia dashed Lexington's hopes of a first pair of wins in the second half, dropping the Legends to 2-8.

In early action, Craig Corrado was caught stealing second on a strong throw down from Power catcher Anderson De La Rosa. After reaching base on balls, Corrado was caught red handed only the third time in his professional career, putting Eric Taylor against two outs. West Virginia starter R.J. Seidel got Taylor swinging for his first strikeout of the evening to end the first.

Legends starter Luis Pardo was put in the hole quickly by Caleb Gindl's two RBI double in the bottom of the first. After two singles and both runners advancing on a fly ball, Gindl's long ball to right field put the Power on top 2-0. The Power would bring another man across in the third after three straight singles allowed by Pardo. After loading the bases with a four pitch walk, shortstop Cat Everett corralled a wild bouncer to exit the second inning down 3-0.

Pardo lacked control at times from mound, shown by a throwing error, one hit batter and a wild pitch in Thursday's matchup. But after a rocky start in the first two innings, Pardo would finish strong with four scoreless frames in his second start of the year along with only one late score in Legends run support. Pardo finished the contest with six innings pitched, seven hits and three earned runs, his most runs allowed in his time with the Legends.

The Legends got their first base hit of the night from Bryan Brown to leadoff the third inning, but Lexington failed to push Everett home from third. The Legends tightened their defense in the third, striking out the leadoff batter and catching De La Rosa trying to nab second base to end the frame.

The bats at Power Park were silent until usual suspect "Big Papi" Brian Pellegrini hit a leadoff homerun in the seventh inning. Pellegrini's eleventh home run of the year and his third of the series brought the Legends closer to the Power at 3-1. Pellegrini finished the game 2-for-3 with his home run, leaving him with 5-for-10 with three home runs and five RBI in the three games this series.

After "Big Papi's" blast, Power starter R.J. Seidel (5-4) was pulled while flirting with a 100+ pitch count. Seidel finished his appearance with one earned run allowed on three hits in six and two-thirds innings.

With two men on and down by a pair in the top of the ninth, Lexington couldn't muster enough muscle to tie the game. West Virginia's Corey Frerichs picked up his fifth save of the season after wrapping up the game with his scoreless two and one thirds innings.

Be sure to tune in as the Legends take on the Power in the fourth game of their series. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:05 pm.
