Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
Lakewood, NJ.- Despite having at least one baserunner in eight of the nine innings, the Shorebirds were pounded 11-2 by Lakewood on Saturday at FirstEnergy Park. Delmarva's 12 base hits were offset by 14 runners left on base over the course of the evening. Lakewood's Chance Chapman escaped from jams in virtually every inning to finish with seven shutout frames, his second straight outing against Delmarva in which he did not surrender any runs.
Meanwhile, Lakewood's offense erupted over the first few innings off Delmarva starter Nathan Nery. In beating Nery for the second time this season, the BlueClaws gathered nine runs on nine hits against Nery over the first two and one third innings.
The Shorebirds broke up the shutout with a run in each the eighth and the ninth, however the final score resulted in Delmarva's second loss in as many nights, following their 7-6 defeat on Friday in Hagerstown. Matt Angle, Joe Nowicki, Anthony Martinez, and Ryan Adams each had a pair of hits for the Birds in a losing effort.
