
Augusta Sweeps Double-Header

Hickory, NC - The Augusta GreenJackets (41-28, 8-2) began a five game series against the Hickory Crawdads (30-40, 3-7) Saturday night by sweeping a double-header, 6-3 and 9-1. Charlie Culberson went 4-for-7 in the double-header and Augusta swept their first double-header of the season.
In the first game of the double-header Augusta rallied twice from deficits of 1-0 and 3-2 for a 6-3 win. Starter Madison Bumgarner (8-2) recorded the win working five innings and allowed three runs, one earned, on three hits.
Trailing 3-2 in the sixth inning Augusta scored four times in the sixth inning to take a 6-3 lead. James Simmons brought in the first run hitting into a fielder's choice. Shane Jordan followed with an RBI sac-fly and Garrett Baker connected for an RBI single.
Albert Laboy gave Hickory an early 1-0 lead with a leadoff homer in the first inning. Augusta rallied back in the fourth inning getting a solo-homer from Angel Villalona and a two-out RBI single from Charlie Culberson for a 2-1 lead.
Hickory reclaimed the lead in the fourth inning plating two runs for a 3-2 lead.
In the second game of the double-header starter Craig Clark (6-1) pitched six shutout innings for the win. The lefty allowed just two hits, no walks and struck out four.
Augusta set the tone of the game early with a two-run homer in the first inning from Baker for a 2-0 lead, his seventh homer of the season.
Elio Sarmiento connected for a two-out RBI double in the third inning to make it 3-0.
Augusta then scored five times in the sixth inning for an 8-0 advantage. Francisco Peguero drew a bases loaded walk then Nick Noonan followed with a three-run triple. Thomas Neal then came up with two outs and drove in Noonan with a double.
Noonan capped off the scoring in the seventh inning with an RBI single for a 9-0 lead.
Hickory got one run in the seventh inning on a solo homer from Matt Hague off of reliever Paul Lussier.
The GreenJackets continue their series against Hickory on Sunday with right-hander Waldis Joaquin (0-1, 3.79) heading to the mound. The Crawdads counter with right-hander Bradley Clapp (1-6, 3.96). First pitch is at 5:05 p.m.
