Suns Set On Captains 6-4

(Eastlake, OH) - The Hagerstown Suns scored five runs in the eighth inning en route to a 6-4 come from behind win over the Lake County Captains on Saturday. That was only the third game that the Captains lead after seven innings that they have lost. They are now 36-3 when leading after seven innings. Jeff Hehr had three hits for the Captains. The Suns extended their first place lead over the Captains to three games.

The Captains got on the board against Suns starter Erik Arnesen in the bottom of the third inning when with two outs Jeff Hehr doubled and scored when Matt Brown tripled. Brown scored on a wild pitch and the Captains led 2-0. The Captains added two more runs against Suns reliever Chris Lugo in the bottom of the sixth inning on a two run double by Lucas Montero.

The Suns started their comeback in the top of the seventh off Captains reliever John Gaub when Michael Burgess doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch. He scored on a ground out by Tim Pahuta and it was 4-1. The Suns took the lead in the top of the eighth when Gaub walked the first two batters and was relieved by Dallas Cawiezell. Stephen King drove home a run to make it 4-2. Cawiezell got the next two men out before giving up consecutive RBI base hits to Sean Rooney, Pahuta and Mark Gildea and the Suns lead 6-4.

Miller did not factor in the decision despite going six scoreless innings allowing only two hits, walking three and striking out four. Chris Lugo picked up the win to up his record to 2-0. Kyle Gunderson picked up his fourth save of the year.

The Captains and Suns conclude the two game series on Sunday at 1:05 PM. The Captains will send RHP Chris Archer (2-7, 3.88) to the mound against the Suns RHP Colten Willems (5-4, 3.63). The Captains game can be heard on AM 1330 WELW, WELW.COM or CAPTAINSBASEBALL.COM.

Sunday at 1:05 PM is a Plevin and Gallucci Family Fun Day where fans can meet Captains players prior to the game and get autographs and kids can run the bases after the game presented by Andrews Osborne Academy. Also, the first 1,500 fans through the gates will get a free Captains Ice Cream Scooper presented by Edy's.

The Captains hit the road following Sunday's game with a two-game stop in Delmarva beginning on Monday and a four-game series in Kannapolis starting Wednesday. The Captains return home for their next home stand on July 7th which will run through the 14th.

Tickets for all Captains home games including the 2008 SAL Playoffs are on sale at the Classic Park box office, by phone at 440-954-WINS (9467) or at captainsbaseball.com. Tickets for the Playoffs remain the same as regular season game tickets, $9 reserved seat, $7 bleachers, juniors, and seniors, $6 lawn. Lawn seats for the Playoffs will only be sold once the reserved seats and bleachers are sold out. The $7 group rate will still apply to groups of 20 or more.
