Lexington Legends News Release

The Greenville Drive gained a split of their four-game series with the Lexington Legends by defeating the Legends 6-3 Monday night at Applebee's Park.

Greenville scored twice in the first inning. Leadoff hitter Derrik Gibson was hit by a pitch. Wilfredo Pichardo singled, sending Gibson to third base. After Pichardo stole second, Chris McGuiness grounded out, scoring Gibson with the game's first run as Pichardo advanced to third. Pichardo came home on Michael Almanzar's fly ball to center field.

The Drive added two more runs in the sixth inning. Pichardo walked to lead off, stole second and went to third on a fly to center by McGuiness. Lexington starter Juan Minaya was then replaced by Wander Alvino, who struck out Almanzar, but walked Jeremy Hazelbaker. Hazelbaker stole second, and he and Pichardo both scored when Dan Butler doubled to left center.

In the Greenville eighth, Zach Gentile's RBI single made the score 5-0, and the final Greenville run scored on a sacrifice fly by Kenneth Roque.

Lexington's only scoring came in the bottom of the ninth. J.D. Martinez walked to lead off, and with two outs, Jonathan Meyer singled. Rene Garcia followed with his second home run of the year to cut the Greenville lead in half. Jeremiah Bayer, who pitched the last four innings and earned his third save, then struck out pinch-hitter Miguel Arrendell to end the game.

Greenville starter Kendal Volz (2-0) got the win. Minaya (0-2) was the losing pitcher.

The Legends remain at home for a four-game series against the Asheville Tourists. Game time Tuesday night at Applebee's Park is 7:05.
