Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
After getting swept in the opening series of the season, then splitting a series, the Kannapolis Intimidators defeated the Hickory Crawdads on Monday to take three games in the four game series, and have now won five of their last six. The Intimidators won the game easily by the score of 7-0.
Joe Serafin started the game for the Intimidators (5-7) and went six strong innings allowing just three hits and striking out a season-high six batters. Serafin (2-1) was then relieved by JR Ballinger, Phil Negus and Garrett Johnson who preserved the shutout for their starting pitcher.
The Intimidators got on the board early against the Crawdads (5-7) starter Robbie Ross (1-2) with two runs in the first inning. Ross struggled to throw 29 pitches in the first as he allowed a walk, an RBI-double by Kyle Colligan and the other run scoring on an RBI-ground out off the bat of Ian Gac.
The Intimidators added to their lead with a solo shot off the bat of Jordan Cheatham to lead off the fifth, his team-leading second home run before firing with three runs in the sixth inning to take a commanding lead. In that inning Jose Vargas and Trayce Thompson led off with singles before being balked to second and third. After a strikeout, Juan Silverio hit a bloop single scoring one on the hit and one on a throwing error. Jeff Tezak then hit an RBI-single to score Silverio to make it 6-0. The Intimidators loaded the bases in the ninth and score one more run to make it 7-0.
The Intimidators are 3-1 on the road this season and head to Rome to play the Rome Braves, the team that swept the Intimidators at the beginning of the season. The Braves had their own 5 game losing streak this season after beginning the season with five straight wins. Terry Doyle (1-1) will start for the Intimidators and lefty Brett Oberholtzer (0-1) will start for the Braves.
