Suns Drop Series Finale to Shorebirds

April 19, 2010 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Hagerstown Suns News Release

The Hagerstown Suns (6-6) won three out of the four games of their series against the Delmarva Shorebirds (7-5), but lost the finale 3-2 in 11 innings on Monday.

The final run of the game scored on a wild pitch by Glen Gibson (1-1) during an intentional walk as TJ Baxter came all the way home for the Shorebirds from second base.

The fell behind 1-0 in the second inning as right fielder Brian Conley doubled home third baseman Tyler Kolodny for Delmarva against Suns starting pitcher Josh Smoker.

That proved to be the only run Smoker allowed as the left hander lasted five innings, allowed just four hits and struck out six though he did not factor in the decision.

Hagerstown took the lead in the top of fifth inning as right fielder Marcus Jones, left fielder JP Ramirez and first baseman Brett Newsome all had hits. Jones and Ramirez scored in the frame, giving the Suns a 2-1 lead.

The lead held for the Suns until the bottom of the seventh inning when Luis Bernardo, who had reached base on a fielder's choice scored from third base on a wild pitch by Suns reliever Colten Willems.

The Suns never really threatened again, as Delmarva relief pitcher Ryan Palsha (1-0) pitched the final three innings of the game to earn the victory for the Shorebirds.

Gibson took the loss after tossing one and one third innings of work and allowing just one base hit and one run.

The Suns will now travel to Lakewood, NJ to take on the Phillies-affiliated Lakewood BlueClaws in a four-game series at First Energy Park.

Hagerstown will return to Municipal Stadium on Saturday, April 24 with a 6:35 p.m. game against the Shorebirds.
