Sand Gnats Win Series

Rome, GA - The Savannah Sand Gnats defeated the Rome Braves Monday night 4-1 in front of 1,940 fans at State Mutual Stadium. Rome falls to 6-6 as the Sand Gnats take the opening home series three games to one.

Savannah scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning. Juan Lagares tripled and scored on a fielding error by Kyle Rose for the 1-0 score. The Gnats added another run for the 2-0 lead in the sixth on a Lagares home run to left field.

Rome scored their only run of the night in the bottom half of the seventh on a RBI double by Matt Kramer to score Christian Bethancourt.

Savannah added two insurance runs in the ninth for the 4-1 final.

James Fuller (2-1) earns the win for Savannah while Julio Teheran (1-1) picks up his first loss of the season for Rome. Teheran pitched well going 5.1 innings striking out three and allowing just one earned run. Michael Powers gets his first save for the Sand Gnats.
