Charleston RiverDogs News Release
AUGUSTA, Ga.- Chris Dominguez crushed a three-run home run in the bottom of the 11th to lead the Augusta GreenJackets to a 5-2, 11-inning win over the Charleston RiverDogs in front of 1,016 fans at Lake Olmstead Stadium Monday evening.
Augusta takes three out of four in the series to improve to 9-3, while Charleston drops its second straight in falling to 5-7.
Dan Cook doubled to lead off the 11th against Charleston's Ben Watkins (1-1), and after Luke Anders walked with one out, Dominguez ended the game and the series with a three-run homer over the centerfield wall. This marks the second walkoff loss in a row for the RiverDogs, as Tommy Joseph's two-run home run in the ninth on Sunday gave Augusta a 3-1 triumph.
Augusta took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first against Graham Stoneburner on back-to-back, one-out doubles by Jose Medina and Cook. Stoneburner would fan a career-high eight batters in 6.0 innings of work, while surrendering just one run on eight hits, but took his first no-decision of the season.
Charleston barked back in the fourth scoring twice for a 2-1 advantage against starter Jeremy Toole. Luke Murton doubled to deep left then rumbled home on DeAngelo Mack's RBI two-bagger to tie the score. Mack moved to third on a groundout and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Taylor Grote.
Toole also took a no-decision for Augusta, lasting just 4.1 innings and giving up a pair of runs on four hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
The GreenJackets loaded the bases in the seventh against Francisco Rondon, who uncorked a wild pitch with Dominguez batting to score Cook to knot the game at 2-2. Augusta, though, would leave the bases loaded for the second time in the contest and strand a total of 15 runners in the game.
Charleston had the go-ahead run on base in each of the last three innings, but could not push anything else across. Chris Gloor (2-0) collected his second win in as many games fanning Emerson Landoni in the 11th with Kelvin Castro left at second, as the RiverDogs stranded 10 in the contest.
Luke Murton led Charleston's eight-hit arsenal with a pair of doubles, while Cook and Juan Martinez each had three hits for Augusta.
Charleston embarks on the second half of the eight-game road trip Tuesday night beginning a four-game series against the Hickory Crawdads, a Texas Rangers affiliate, scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch. In the first clip of the set, the RiverDogs plan to start right-hander Sean Black (0-0, 6.00 ERA), while the Crawdads send right-hander Wilmer Font (1-0, 3.72 ERA) to the hill, who is ranked as the 10th best prospect in the Rangers farm system, according to Baseball America.
