Tulsa Drillers News Release
WICHITA, KS - The Tulsa Drillers began the race for the playoffs on Tuesday night against the Wichita Wind Surge at Riverfront Stadium. The Drillers started the night five games back from first place Wichita, as they looked to gain ground in the Double-A Central. Tulsa looked towards their bullpen for the second consecutive game, as Justin Hagenman made only his second start of the season. The Wind Surge attacked for six runs on thirteen hits as they defeated the Drillers 6-4.
The result gives Wichita a 13-12 advantage in the Coors Light Propeller Series with only five games remaining in the series.
Jeren Kendall led off the game by reaching base on a drag bunt. A single from Michael Busch moved Kendall to second, and broken-bat single from Ryan Noda brought him home for a 1-0 Drillers lead.
The Wind Surge scored four consecutive runs over the next four innings on two RBI singles, an RBI double and a bases-loaded walk for a 4-1 Wichita lead.
In the sixth, Tulsa had two runners on base when Noda was hit by a pitch Kody Hoese doubled. Jacob Amaya brought Noda across with a single, as the Drillers still trailed 4-2.
Wichita earned the run back in the bottom half of the sixth with a sac fly from Caleb Hamilton, bringing the Surge back to a three-run lead at 5-2.
Tulsa battled back to within one run in the seventh. After Busch was hit by a pitch, Noda hit his 24th home run of the season, but the Drillers still trailed 5-4.
Wichita added one final run in the seventh on an RBI double from Andrew Bechtold.
