Six Homers Power Riders to Victory in Amarillo

AMARILLO, Texas - The Frisco RoughRiders blew out the Amarillo Sod Poodles 10-3 in the series opener from HODGETOWN on Tuesday night.

The Riders (56-40) power display started in the third when Josh Stowers blasted a solo home run, his team-best 16th of the season.

Sam Huff then added a solo shot of his own in the fourth, his eighth of the year, and it was 2-0 Frisco.

Amarillo (45-53) answered back in the fourth on an RBI single from Dominic Fletcher to cut the deficit to 2-1, but Bubba Thompson and Josh Smith hit back-to-back homers in the fifth to increase the Frisco lead to 4-1. It was Thompson's 13th and Smith's first Double-A home run in his career.

After Buddy Kennedy went deep in the sixth for the Sod Poodles, Frisco answered back with an RBI single from Justin Foscue and a Blaine Crim two-run blast in the seventh, putting the Riders out in front 7-2. It was Crim's sixth in Double-A and his 26th of the year overall, tied for third place in Minor League Baseball.

In the top of the eighth, Davis Wendzel crushed his fourth home run of the year, another solo homer, before a run scored on an error and Thompson singled home yet another tally to make it 10-2.

Dominic Miroglio ripped an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth for Amarillo, but the Riders cruised to a 10-3 victory.

Cody Bradford (2-0) earned the victory for Frisco, going five innings in his start, ceding just one run while striking out three and walking one.

Ryne Nelson (2-2) took the loss, giving up four runs over his five innings on four solo home runs.

The RoughRiders and Sod Poodles meet for game two of the series on Wednesday, August 25th at 7:05 p.m. RHP Noah Bremer (3-2, 4.38) starts for Frisco against RHP Brandon Pfaadt (0-0, 3.38)
