Doubledays Cook Cutters 7-2

July 21, 2011 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

The Williamsport Crosscutters lost their second straight game to the Auburn Doubledays, as they were defeated 7-2 on a steamy night at Falcon Park.

The Cutters took a first-inning lead on a two-out RBI double by Maikel Franco to make it a 1-0 game.

Auburn answered in the bottom of the third, as Matt Skole took Cutters starter Colin Kleven deep to right for a two-run homer to give the Doubledays a 2-1 lead. The home team increased its lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth on another two-run shot, this one coming off the bat of Adrian Nieto. The lead increased to 5-1 in the next inning, as Bryce Ortega's two-out RBI single up the middle made it a 5-1 game.

The Cutters got a run back in the seventh, as Nolan Clark's groundout to short with one out plated Brock Stassi for a 5-2 ballgame. Auburn immediately answered with two runs on three hits off Cutters reliever Jesus Pirela in their half of the seventh to make it a 7-2 lead. That score would be the resulting final, as the Cutters bats failed to mount any more significant threats in the matchup.

These two teams will play their final regular season matchup versus each other here tomorrow at 7:05pm. Every Cutters matchup can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com
