Jamestown Jammers News Release
BATAVIA, N.Y. - The Jamestown Jammers snapped their two-game skid and moved back in to a tie for ï¬Ârst place in the Pinckney Division after beating the Batavia Muckdogs, 4-2, Thursday night at Dwyer Stadium.
The Jammers raced out to an early lead, and never looked back on the strength of another outstanding outing by Tom Peale. The 6-3 righty tossed ï¬Âve scoreless innings, gave up two hits with two walks and two strikeouts to earn his second win of the season and tie Jamestown with Batavia and Mahoning Valley for ï¬Ârst place at 19-15.
After the Muckdogs rallied late to beat the purple and green Wednesday, the Jammers showed no ill effects from the night before as they scored three runs in the second inning.
Jobduan Morales started the frame with a walk, and Josh Adams and Nate Woods hit back-to-back singles to load up the bases. Viosergy Rosa plated two runs with a double to left before Rony Peralta pushed across another run on a RBI ground out.
That score would stand until the sixth inning when Batavia nearly tied the game. Garrett Wittels roped a leadoff double then tried to score on a single to left by Joey Bergman; however, Kentrell Dewitt ï¬Âred a perfect strike to the plate to keep Batavia off the board. That play would loom large as David Medina belted a two-run homer to center, which would've tied the game.
The Jammers then extended the lead back to two with a single tally in the top of the seventh. Two singles and a walk loaded up the bases just like the second inning then Ryan Goetz lifted a sacriï¬Âce ï¬ây to left to score the fourth Jamestown run.
In both the eighth and ninth, the Muckdogs would bring the tying run to the batter's box, but Dejai Oliver and Alfredo Buret worked out of the jams to avoid Jamestown's longest losing streak of the season.
Rosa paced the Jamestown offense with two hits including a double and two RBI, while Adams chipped in two singles and a run scored.
For Batavia, Jose Almarante took the loss despite throwing eight innings and giving up four runs. Both Wittels and Virgil Hill had two hits, and Medina hit his ï¬Âfth homer.
The teams will wrap up the season series Friday night at 7:05 p.m. in Batavia.
