Auburn Doubledays News Release
Auburn, NY - For the fifth time this year and first time at home, the Auburn Doubledays hit two home runs in a ballgame. Thursday night's two home run effort led the Doubledays to a 7-2 defeat of the Williamsport Crosscutters at Falcon Park.
Led by a two-run home run by Matt Skole in the third and a two-run homer by Adrian Nieto in the fifth, the Doubledays jumped out to a 5-1 lead against the Crosscutters. Carlos Alvarez added a two-run double in the seventh en route to the 7-2 win.
Minor league rehabber Brad Meyers pitched the first two and one-third innings of the game for Auburn, surrendering back-to-back doubles in the first inning and a double in the third. He allowed just the three hits during his short outing, striking out two.
From there, Wirkin Estevez did the rest. Originally slated to start tonight before Meyers arrived on his rehab assignment from Syracuse (AAA), Estevez was filthy, giving up just two hits in over five innings of work. With his great pitching, he earned his third win of the season.
Offensively, the Doubledays were led by Adrian Nieto's 3 for 4 performance at the plate and Caleb Ramsey's two-hit outing. Ramsey extended his hitting streak to six games while teammates Matt Skole and Carlos Alvarez also extended theirs to eight and nine games respectively.
The Doubledays return home Friday night for game four in the four-game series against Williamsport. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm at Falcon Park. For tickets, please visit www.auburndoubledays.com.
