Dogs Fall to Hot Tots

June 28, 2023 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Mankato MoonDogs News Release

The MoonDogs make their first trip to Minot since the city held a team back in 2000 and the MoonDogs were still the Mashers.

The MoonDogs would give Peter Michael his first start of the year looking for a strong start against a team that has been sitting in the basement. The Hot Tots would get off to a hot start putting four up in the first chasing Michael from the game.

The MoonDogs would look to get back into his game and would see the start if that. Kai Roberts would put one in the gap and make it on base. Arial Armas would give it no time as he would look down the first pitch and send it deep into the neighbor's yard cutting the lead in half.

Caleb Strack would come in for Michaels in the second, coming off a great outing in Bismarck last week. Strack looking off from his last few outings was able to keep things together while giving up one run.

The MoonDogs stirk back after a Ty Rumsey double to start the third put the MoonDogs in scoring position with 3 outs to play with. Kip Fougerousse would single to the gap in left field sending Rumsey in for a much-needed response for the MoonDogs.

The Hot Tots would not go down without a fight putting up a two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Fougerousse would lead off the sixth inning with a double in a must rally situation. Ryan Nicholson would single into deep center field giving Fougerousse enough time to get around and score.

Brenden Hord would go to work in the eighth inning with a double early. Roberts would push Hord across the plate with a single that made its way past the first baseman.

Corbin Talley would come in for Strack who gave the MoonDogs six strong innings. The Hot Tots would launch one deep for the second home run of the night and expanding the lead by three.

The Moondogs would not be able to mount a comeback and fall for the second time this season to the Hot Tots this season with a score of 10-6. Join us at the same time tomorrow as the MoonDogs look for payback on a night of rest and no travel.
