Spitters Dominate The Battle Against The Jacks

Traverse City, MI - The Traverse City Pit Spitters win one in extras and improve to a 19-11 record after a 9-2 win over the Battle Creek Battle Jacks in front of 1,922 fans this evening at Turtle Creek Stadium.

Evan Orzech lead off the Pit Spitters offense in the second inning with a walk, after a silent offensive first inning from both teams. Devin Hukill reached base on an error made by Battle Jacks second baseman Gavin Arseneau, following a sacrifice bunt by Andrew Mannelly. Zach Johnson then hit a ball up the middle to bring around two runners giving the Pit Spitters a 2-0 lead. The Pit Spitters piled on a few more in the bottom of the third inning following a lead off single by Glenn Miller and a walk drawn by Tyler Minnick. Orzech hit a groundball to Arseneau where he made another error allowing a runner to come in and score extending the Pit Spitters lead to 3-0. Devin Hukill then hit a triple down the right field line to bring across two runs extending the Pit Spitters lead to 5-0. Blake Salamon led off the top of the fifth inning for the Battle Jacks with an infield base hit. After a double to right field from Kyle Ratliff, and a walk drawn by Dave Alleva, Jt Sokolove brought in the Battle Jacks first run on a groundout to shortstop making it 5-1. The Battle Jacks offense picked back up in the top of the seventh inning, when Kyle Ratliff beat out the return throw to first from second base. After another Alleva single to right field, and a Arseneau hit by pitch to load the bases, Sokolove drove in another run to pull within striking distance to 5-2. The Pit Spitters first two batters walked, and quickly moved into scoring position on a Tyler Minnick sacrifice bunt. Orzech singled up the middle bringing around two more runs to make it 7-2 Pit Spitters. After Mannelly drew a walk, Zach Johnson picked up his third hit of the game driving in another run to make it 8-2. With bases loaded and two outs, Jack Crighton drew a walk to give the Pit Spitters one more run to make it 9-2.

The Pit Spitters improve to 19-11 on the season, as the Battle Jacks drop to 9-20. Pit Spitters starting pitcher, Nico Saldias threw five innings of one run ball, giving up two hits, walking three, and striking out three. Anthony Ramirez threw an inning of scoreless relief as he struck out one. Jake Michel threw an inning of relief giving up one run on two hits. Hayden Jactzak threw an inning of scoreless ball out of the bullpen. Noah Samol made his home debut with the Pit Spitters as he struck out two in an inning of work.
