Rockers Drop Series Opener to Woodchucks
June 28, 2023 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Wausau, Wis.- The Rockers lost Wednesday night's game to the Wausau Woodchucks 14-0. With the loss, Green Bay is now one and a half games back of the Woodchucks in the Great Lakes West division.
Defensive errors would be costly all game long for Green Bay. Only eight of the 14 runs scored by the Woodchucks would be earned as the rest would score due to the Rockers' two errors. Wausau would score in every inning after the second, including a five-spot in the eighth.
Starting on the hill for the Rockers was Kyle Stoddard (Missouri Southern State). Stoddard made his third start of the season and ninth appearance overall. He started off his outing with two scoreless innings.
Wausau would strike first in the third inning. Their three-run inning came off an error and a two-run home run. In the bottom of the fourth, the Woodchucks would get three more of their runs.
The Rockers would get two hits in the fourth inning, coming off the bats of Kyle West (West Virginia) and Carlos Hernandez (Anderson). However, a line drive would turn into a double play and end the threat.
Nick Miller (Anderson) would relieve Stoddard on the hill after three innings. Miller made his second appearance of the year for Green Bay, where he would only record two outs while giving up three runs (one earned). Luke Moeller (Arizona) would relieve him to get out of the inning.
Bryce Crabb (Northwestern-Saint Paul) would enter the game next for Green Bay. It would be his first appearance of the year for the Rockers after making nine for Green Bay last season. The second-year arm would give up one earned run across two innings of work.
The Rockers would get two more hits off the bats of West and Kendal Ewell (Kentucky). The team would finish the game with six total hits.
The pitchers for the Rockers to round out the game would be Kevahn Ebron (CSU-Monterey Bay) and Micah Berens (Incarnate Word).
With the loss, the Rockers are now 17-14 on the season. They find themselves tied for second place with the 16-13 Wisconsin Rapids Rafters.
Up next for the Rockers is the second game of the series against Wausau on Thursday night. Then, Green Bay will return home to host the Lakeshore Chinooks.
