Dock Spiders Crawl over Mallards in Game One
August 10, 2019 - Northwoods League (Northwoods) - Madison Mallards News Release
Madison, Wis.- The Madison Mallards (42-29) fell to the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders (35-35) 13-5, in their last regular season home game. Madison picked up their 29th loss of the summer after the Dock Spiders crawled over the Mallards with their dominant offense.
The Dock Spiders took control of the game early. In the top of the first, Fond du Lac scored six runs to rattle the Mallards defense. A walk followed by back-to-back singles loaded the bases with one out. Tate Kolywuck (Vanderbilt) stepped up to the plate and ripped a two RBI double to put the Spiders on the board, 2-0. Following his lead, Zeb Adreon (Iowa) and Ryan Sepede (BYU) contributed RBI singles to bring in two more runs. An error on the Mallards infield let a runner from third come home, and with a sacrifice fly from Charlie Maxwell (Northwestern), the Dock Spiders finished the inning with a 6-0 lead.
Madison put a small dent in the score in the bottom of the second, after Nicholas Figus (Illinois Wesleyan) popped up a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to make the score 6-1.
Fond du Lac remained quiet on offense, while the Mallards struck again in the bottom of the fourth. Another sacrifice fly, this one by Timo Schau (Southern Wesleyan), had the Mallards trailing 6-2 going into the fifth.
The Mallards carried their momentum into the bottom of the sixth. Austin Blazevic (Southeast Missouri) recorded an RBI single to cut the Dock Spiders lead in half, 6-3.
Having their lead cut did not phase the Dock Spiders. Fond du Lac added another run in the top of the sixth from an RBI single from Maxwell, to make the score 7-3. Keeping up with the Spiders, the Mallards added two more runs in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single from Nick Gile (Madison College) and a sacrifice fly by EJ Ranel (Lenoir-Rhyne).

Kolwyck responded to the Mallards by slamming a two-run home run, putting the Dock Spiders ahead 9-5 in the top of the seventh. Fond du Lac extended their lead in the eighth after an RBI single by Adreon, followed by a three-run home run by Sepede, gave the Dock Spiders a whopping 13-5 lead.
The bottom of the eighth and nine innings were unsuccessful for the Mallards. The offense did not come alive for the team to pull off a come-from-behind win.
A loss was recorded by Mallards starter Patrick Foldy (Madison College), because he gave up six runs in the top of the first.
Dock Spiders starting pitcher Evan Sankey (North Dakota State), earned the win after he pitched through five innings and did not allow the Mallards to take the lead. Relief pitcher Brock Weirather (Grinnell College) earned the save after shutting down the Mallards lineup to prevent a comeback.
