Division contests take Penguins into All-Star break

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will face off with three East Division opponents this week, with all three games coming on home ice.

A LOOK AHEAD:

Wednesday, January 25 - Bridgeport Sound Tigers @ PENGUINS, 7:05pm

The Penguins are 3-3-0-0 against Bridgeport this year, winning once at home and twice on the road. Bridgeport is 21-20-2-2 (46 points, tied for third in division) entering Wednesday's game. The Sound Tigers are the only team in the East Division with more than one regulation win against the Penguins, posting a 2-1 victory on December 21 in Bridgeport, a 3-1 win on Jan. 8 in Bridgeport and a 7-0 win Saturday night in Wilkes-Barre. The Penguins and Sound Tigers will meet a total of 10 times this season.

Saturday, January 28 - Norfolk Admirals @ PENGUINS, 7:05pm

NOTES:

The Penguins are 7-1-0-0 against the Admirals this season. Norfolk carries a 21-16-2-2 record (46 points, tied for third in division) into the week. They will play two contests against the Hershey Bears (Wednesday and Friday) before reaching Wilkes-Barre on Saturday. The final meeting between the teams will take place on Friday, April 7 in Wilkes-Barre. The Admirals captured the last game between the teams by a 5-3 score on Jan. 13 in Norfolk. The first 5,000 fans will receive a Penguins Game-Used Jersey Card featuring one of the following players: Jonathan Filewich, Ryan Stone, David Koci, Arpad Mihaly, Tomas Surovy or Ryan Whitney - ONE (1) CARD PER PERSON, GIVEN AWAY RANDOMLY

Sunday, January 29 - Binghamton Senators @ PENGUINS, 5:05pm

NOTES:

The Penguins are 3-0-0-0 against the Senators this season, posting victories on Oct. 23 (5-1), Nov. 26 (4-1) and Jan. 20 (6-2). Binghamton is 17-21-2-2 (38 points, fifth in East Division) heading into a Friday night contest against Albany. The teams will meet four more times during the regular season.

PENS SET TEAM ROAD WINS RECORD

The Penguins recorded their 17th road victory this season, posting a 6-2 win against the Binghamton Senators last Friday, Jan. 20, setting a new team record for road wins in a season. The former mark of 16 road wins was set in 2000-01, and tied by the 2004-05 team. The team's road record currently sits at 17-3-1-1 (36 points) through 22 games this season.

The Pens have picked up at least one point in 19 of the first 22 road contests this season. The team record for road points in a season is 41, set in 2003-04 and 2004-05. This year's team is five points shy of tying that mark with a possible 36 points still to be had.

PENS ALL-STARS, AND HOW TO SEE THEM

Two Penguins players, as well as two Penguins coaches, will take part in the 2006 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic, which takes place on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Rookie defenseman Noah Welch was voted a starter for the PlanetUSA squad, while netminder Dany Sabourin was selected as a backup to Manitoba's Wade Flaherty and the Canadian team.

Current Pittsburgh Penguins forwards Michel Ouellet (Team Canada) and Tomas Surovy (PlanetUSA) were also selected to their respective teams, but will not be available to participate.

Joining the players are head coach Joey Mullen and assistant coach Al Sims, who will be behind the PlanerUSA bench.

Local viewers can tune in to all the action by tuning to Comcast Sports Net, which will carry the All-Star Skills Competition on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 11:00pm (tape delayed) and the All-Star Game at 8:00pm on Wednesday, Feb. 1 (LIVE).

INDIVIDUAL LEAGUE LEADERS (all stats as of 1/24)

Dany Sabourin is first overall with a 1.97 goals against average, first with a .935 save percentage, tied for third with 18 wins and tied for second with three shutouts. Alain Nasreddine is second overall with a plus-22 rating. Ryan Lannon is tied for third overall with plus-18 rating. Dennis Bonvie is second overall with 246 penalty minutes. Daniel Carcillo is third overall with 220 penalty minutes.

ATTENDANCE

The Penguins are averaging 8,163 fans per home game this season (163,265 in 20 games), 100.2% of capacity.
