Albany Devils News Release
Lowell, Mass. - The American Hockey League announced today that Lock Monsters G Vitaly Kolesnik will play for the PlanetUSA team in the RBK Hockey 2006 AHL All-Star Classic. The game will be next Wednesday night, February 1st in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Kolesnik, 26, will join C Keith Aucoin as Lock Monsters on the team. In his rookie season in North America, Kolesnik has been strong in net for Lowell and is 13-11-0 on the season, with a 2.77 GAA and a..919 save percentage, which ranks sixth in the AHL. He earned a seven-game stint in the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche, during which he went 3-3-0. Kolesnik was leading the AHL in minutes and saves and was among leaders in wins at the time of his recall in early December.
After the All-Star break, Kolesnik will travel to Italy to represent his native Kazakhstan at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games. Undrafted, the Avalanche signed him as a free agent in August and he was assigned to the Lock Monsters during training camp.
The 2006 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic will take place at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, home of the AHL's Manitoba Moose, and will feature the top young talent in the American Hockey League. The event gets underway on Tuesday, January 31, with the 2006 CCM AHL All-Star Skills Competition at 7:00 p.m. (CT), and concludes with the annual All-Star Game at 7:00 p.m. (CT) on Wednesday, February 1.
The 2006 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic will be televised on Rogers Sportsnet in Canada and on a series of regional cable networks in the United States. It will also be offered at no charge on B2 Networks' broadband video webcast at www.theahl.com.
The Monsters travel to Albany to take on the River Rats on Wednesday, January 25th at 7:00 p.m. They return home to host the Hartford Wolf Pack in the first of a home-and-home on Friday night, January 27th. Game time is 7:35 p.m. and the team will wear its black alternate jerseys. That night is Boy Scout Night with the Lock Monsters, and the U.S. Army will also be in attendance collecting donations for care packages to send to soldiers. The last U.S. Army night held by the Monsters earlier this season collected enough donations for 600 care packages. For a list of suggested items, visit www.lockmonsters.com. The Army will also hold a swearing-in ceremony on the ice during the first intermission.
