BINGHAMTON, NY - The American Hockey League's 2001-02 Regular Season Champion and Eastern Conference Playoff Champion Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, have announced the recall of Goaltender Rick DiPietro and Defenseman Ray Schultz by the Islanders. The Sound Tigers have also announced the signing of Defenseman Doug Schmidt and Goaltender Marco Emond to professional tryout contracts.
DiPietro, 21, has appeared in 30 games posting a 12-10-8 record, 2.23 goals against average, .923 save percentage, three shutouts, three assists and eight penalty minutes for the Sound Tigers, as well as a 1-1 record, 2.02 goals against average and .920 save percentage in two games with the Islanders this season. Schultz, 26, has posted one goal, three assists, four points and 58 penalty minutes in 24 games with the Sound Tigers, as well as 23 penalty minutes in three games with the Islanders this season.
Schmidt, 24, attended training camp with the Sound Tigers this past fall and has posted five goals, seven assists, 12 points and 123 penalty minutes in 43 games with the United Hockey League's Adirondack Ice Hawks this season. Emond, 25, has posted a 16-8-1 record, 3.04 goals against average, .915 save percentage and one shutout in 30 games with the UHL's Elmira Jackals this season.
The Sound Tigers will finish a seven-game road trip when they visit the Binghamton Senators, whom they trail by one point atop the East Division, tonight at 7:05 p.m. The Sound Tigers will return home for a pair of games versus the Houston Aeros this Friday at 7:35 p.m. and Saturday, "Milford Appreciation Night", at 7:05 p.m. All Sound Tigers' games are broadcast live on "The ZONE" FOX Sports Radio 1300 and at www.soundtigers.com. WSTC/WNLK 1400/1350 also broadcasts road games.
