BINGHAMTON, NY - The American Hockey League's 2001-02 Regular Season Champion and Eastern Conference Playoff Champion Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, lost 3-0 to the Binghamton Senators Wednesday. The loss came in the final game of a seven-game road trip, on which the Sound Tigers were 2-4-1, and gave Binghamton a three-point lead atop the East Division. The Senators entered the game one point ahead of the Sound Tigers in the division standings.

Binghamton's top line gave the Senators an early 2-0 lead with a pair of first-period goals 2:10 apart as Joe Murphy opened the scoring with his 13th of the season on assists from Jason Spezza and Toni Dahlman at 2:45, and Dahlman made it 2-0 with his fourth of the year at 4:55 on assists from Murphy and Spezza.

Goaltender Ray Emery kept the Sound Tigers off the scoreboard despite a 15-7 shots on goal advantage for Bridgeport in the opening frame. David St. Germain, making his first start in goal for the Sound Tigers this season, looked sharp in the second period keeping the score 2-0 despite a 20-10 shots on goal advantage for Binghamton.

With 5:20 remaining in the third period, St. Germain left the game with an injury and was replaced by Marco Emond who, along with Defenseman Doug Schmidt, signed a professional tryout contract with the Sound Tigers earlier in the day to replace Goaltender Rick DiPietro and Defenseman Ray Schultz who were recalled by the Islanders.

Murphy iced the win for Binghamton with his second goal of the game, his 14th of the season, on an assist from Dahlman with 1:03 left to play.

The Sound Tigers finished the game 0 for 3 on the power play while Binghamton was 0 for 2 and had a 35-33 shots on goal advantage. Murphy was the number one star of the game, Emery was second, and Spezza third. St. Germain finished the game with 30 saves on 32 shots while Emond stopped two of the three shots he faced.
