Smith strikes in OT as Ducks edge Barons

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Nick Smith scored 3:34 into overtime to lift the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks to a 2-1 victory over the Cleveland Barons in American Hockey League action Wednesday at Cincinnati Gardens.

Smith put a Peter Podhradsky feed past goaltender Vesa Toskala for his first goal in 15 games and second game-winner of the season to help Cincinnati end its three-game skid (0-2-1-0).

Tony Martensson opened the scoring midway through the first period for the Ducks, 1-1-1-0 on a five-game home stand.

Ilja Bryzgalov made 28 saves, including 14 in the third period, to win for the first time since November 9.

Graig Mischler scored 7:11 into the third period, tying the score at 1-1 for Cleveland, which has lost 14 of its last 15 games.

Toskala finished with 30 saves in the loss, falling to 8-24-1 on the season.

The Ducks play Rochester Friday at 7:35 p.m. at Cincinnati Gardens.
