LOOKING BACK:

Alex Auld stopped 35 shots to lead Manitoba to a 2-1 win over Saint John on Tuesday night. The Moose were outshot by a 36-14 margin, but got goals from Rene Vydareny and the newly-acquired Chris Herperger. Making his AHL debut, Jordan Leopold scored the lone goal for the Flames. The teams meet again tonight in Winnipeg (7:30 CT, 9:30 AT).

Chicago kept climbing the conference ladder with a 4-1 decision at San Antonio on Tuesday. Simon Gamache and Steve Maltais recorded a goal and an assist each and Norm Maracle finished with 33 saves. The Wolves' win, combined with Utah's victory over Milwaukee on Monday, leaves two points separating second place from fifth place in the West Division.

LOOKING AHEAD:

A battle for first place in the East Division is waged tonight (7:05 ET) as Binghamton hosts Bridgeport. The Senators enter the game 4-0-1-0 in their last five outings, paced by Jason Spezza with six goals and three assists in those contests. The Sound Tigers, one point behind the Sens, are 2-6-3-0 in their last 11 games away from home as they wrap up a seven-game road swing. Jeff Hamilton has three goals and an assist in Bridgeport's last two games.

With just one loss in its last 16 games (13-1-2-0), Houston begins an eight-game road trip in Hartford tonight (7:05 ET, 6:05 CT). The Aeros' Curtis Murphy leads all AHL defensemen with 17 goals this season, while Jean-Guy Trudel, who has 13+17=30 pts. in 29 career games against the Wolf Pack, is third in the league's scoring race. Hartford is 1-4-0-1 in its last six home games, and 2-2-4-1 against the Western Conference this season.

Grand Rapids and Norfolk hook up at Scope tonight (7:15 ET) in a clash of Western Conference division leaders. The Central-leading Griffins are 12-3-2-2 on the road this season, led by rookie goaltender Joey MacDonald, who is a perfect 6-0-0 away from home. The Admirals, who have allowed 10 goals in eight January games, have been sparked by the return of Craig Andersson, who is 3-1-1 with a 0.91 GAA and two shutouts since returning from the Chicago Blackhawks.
