Flames Make Pair of Transactions

Calgary, AB - Calgary Flames Vice-President & General Manager Craig Button announced today the acquisition of 24 year-old defenceman Mike Mottau from the New York Rangers in exchange for a sixth round choice in either the 2003 or 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Mottau, a 6'0" 193 lbs. rearguard from Quincy, Massachusetts played in 29 games with Rangers' AHL affiliate in Hartford this season posting 17 points (1 goal, 16 assists) and 24 penalty minutes. The former Hobey Baker winner (2000) as the NCAA's top player has appeared in 19 NHL career games with the Rangers posting three assists and 13 penalty minutes. Mottau was the Rangers' 10th choice (seventh round), 182nd overall, in the 1997 Entry Draft.

In addition the Flames announced forward Jamie Wright has been traded to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for future considerations. Wright appeared in 19 games with Calgary this season recording four points (2 goals, 2 assists) and 12 penalty minutes. Wright also appeared in three games with the Saint John Flames (AHL) posting three points (2 goals, 1 assist).
