Texas Stars News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Jason Dickinson scored a power play goal and Philippe Desrosiers stopped 31 shots in net as the Texas Stars closed out their three-game road trip with a 4-2 win over the Bakersfield Condors on Saturday night in front of 4,221 at Rabobank Arena.
It was the Stars' seventh win in their past eight games. Dickinson's goal was one of two power play goals in the game for Texas. Remi Elie's third period tally was the game-winner as Texas won their fifth game this season over the Condors in as many meetings.
The Stars (32-19-3-3) return home on Friday to kick off Pink in the Rink weekend against the Ontario Reign at 7:30 p.m. CST at Cedar Park Center.
The Condors (23-20-2-2) opened up the scoring on a shorthanded breakaway by Rob Klinkhammer at 7:25 for his ninth goal in just 11 AHL games this season. Matej Stransky tied things up on the power play at 14:18 with a shot from the right circle off assists from Brendan Ranford and Stephen Johns, and the Stars skated into the break with a 1-1 score.
The Texas power play went back to work in period two as Dickinson snapped home his 17th of the season at 11:59 from the right circle to make it 2-1. It was the only goal of the period and it was Dickinson's 21st point in his last 23 games to keep pace with San Antonio's Mikko Rantanen in the AHL's rookie scoring race. Rantanen's 44 points are three ahead of Dickinson's.
Elie's third period goal capped off an odd-man rush on a wrist shot from the right circle that beat Bakersfield's Eetu Laurikainen for his sixth of the year. Brett Ritchie and Cole Ully notched the assists. The Condors pulled their goaltender in the final minute, and Tyler Pitlick snuck in a rebound goal with 46 seconds to play, but Curtis McKenzie added an empty-net goal for the Stars to close things out with the 4-2 final.
Texas finished 2-for-5 on the power play and the penalty kill unit was perfect on four chances for the Condors.
Laurikainen stopped 34 of 37 shots in the loss for Bakersfield.
The Texas Stars are the primary development affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars and currently in their seventh season at Cedar Park Center. Full season, 24-game and 12-game ticket packages for the 2015-16 campaign are on sale now. For more information, call (512) GO-STARS (467-8277) or visit TexasStars.com.
