
Barracuda Cool off Heat with 4-1 Win

Stockton, CA - The San Jose Barracuda (22-17-6-3, 53pts) presented by Barracuda Networks defeated the host Stockton Heat (21-21-1-2, 45pts) by the score of 4-1 in front of 3,590 fans at Stockton Arena on Sunday afternoon.
John McCarthy broke a 1-1 tie midway through the third period with a shorthanded goal and added an insurance strike just five minutes later as the Barracuda scored three unanswered goals in the third period for the 4-1 victory. Aaron Dell was the #1 star with 39 saves while Nikita Jevpalovs and Trevor Parkes also scored as San Jose snapped the Heat's 10 game winning streak on home ice.
San Jose scored the only goal in the first period of play as Nikita Jevpalovs (4th) drove to the front of the net, found a rebound, and sent a quick shot just inside the cross bar past goaltender Kevin Poulin at 15:06. Nikolay Goldobin extended his point streak to six games (0-7-7) with the only assist. Aaron Dell was sharp with 14 first period saves as the Barracuda took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Stockton outshot San Jose 12-6 in the second period as neither team found the back of the net in a fast paced middle frame. The Barracuda took a 1-0 lead into the second intermission despite getting outshot 26-16 through 40 minutes of play.
Freddie Hamilton (14th) tied the score at 5:15 of the third period with an easy tap in back door after a great cross the crease feed by Garnet Hathaway. After the Barracuda killed of a 5-on-3 advantage, John McCarthy (7th) scored a shorthanded tally at 9:06 with a great rush down the left wing side and snapped a shot from 25 feet that beat Poulin on the blocker side to give the Barracuda a 2-1 advantage. John McCarthy (8th) fired home a rebound from on top of the crease after great work behind the net by Trevor Parkes at 14:25 to give San Jose a 3-1 lead. Trevor Parkes (11th) buried an empty netter at 17:40 to give the Barracuda a 4-1 victory.

Kevin Poulin (8-5-2) made 24 saves on 27 shots for Stockton....Aaron Dell (10-10-5) made 39 saves on 40 shots for San Jose.... San Jose went 0-for-1 on the power play while Stockton went 0-for-3.... Frazer McLaren (inj), Alex Gallant (inj), Mark Cundari, Raffi Torres (rest), Patrick McNally, and Barclay Goodrow did not dress for the Barracuda... Nikolay Goldobin (0-7-7) has a Barracuda season high six game point streak....John McCarthy (3-3-6) has a five game point streak... The Heat had won 10 straight home games dating back to a 2-1 loss to Ontario on Dec 29...the Barracuda are now in 4th place in the Pacific Division which is good for a playoff spot in the Western Conference... Rick Pinkston picked up his 1st AHL fighting major in the first period after a quick scrap with Garnet Hathaway.
